Tessa Verhallen

Title: Transnational Child Welfare and Protection Arrangements for Refugee Children

Over the last years my research is concerned with understanding how socio-legal services are delivered to, and experienced by, disadvantaged groups of people with the aim to gain knowledge on how to better match services to the needs of people. In this seminar, I will first discuss my previous PhD research on families who are subjected to child welfare and protection processes, and my studies on refugees in the Netherlands. Then, I will present my preliminary thoughts on my current research as a postdoc at the Malmö University on transnational child welfare and protection arrangements for refugee children, a combination of my fields on interest.

My proposed project at Social Work examines (1) how child welfare and protection arrangements are framed, organized and coordinated at a (trans)national level in the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark, (2) implemented at a local level by different service providers to make arrangements for refugee children, and (3) actively shaped, and experienced, by the different stakeholders involved in the different countries.

The seminar will be held in English.
